My Timeless Me..by Tori Clark

My Timeless Me

When we were children we were taught that getting discouraged was a fact of life.  Getting discouraged is way too easy for most adults as we learn to stop trying and forget the principles of practice makes perfect.  When the Genie is about to appear out of the lamp, we give up and figure it just won't work.

This attitude seems to pervade every aspect of our existence as we watch the lottery draw and only one in a bazillion takes all while the rest of us realize we just paid the lucky guy a dollar of our own money.  If you don't have it you are likely to figure you can't get it.

Where this attitude comes from is just as important as how we deal with it.  It comes from the perceptions that shape the reality we live in, sleep in and breathe in our every movement.  This attitude tells us that we simply are born in a world geared toward making sure that the average guy can't win.

One such example appeared on a nationwide classifieds website.  A man, obviously suffering from the same lack mentality we are hearing about across the states, asked bravely for help.  The response?  Several messages asking the guy what made him so special that he would DESERVE the help.

My automatic question was what made him special was the bravery to ask for it and to list the many ways he was continuing to move forward.

I explained the man's situation to my own family and we gathered toys for his children and gave him a call.  As it turned out, that bit of help was just what this man needed to turn his world around.  A few dollars for gas and Christmas presents for his girls became the shot in the arm that launched him out of his mindset.  He would write months later to tell my family that we had restored his belief that there was good in the world and, once he accepted that, he was able to find a new job he'd wanted easily and was now supporting his family well.

This is the message we must continue to give ourselves, and others, as we face our hard times.  It isn't that we can't or won't make our dreams come true but that we must believe that this is a great and wonderful world where people are willing to help each other succeed!  You don't have to be famous to know that there are many people out there who would cheer you on in a heartbeat if you were willing to believe in them as well.

Let's not give up because we hit a roadblock, my brothers and sisters.  Let's remind ourselves that we do live in a friendly world and we know it... because each individual is a friendly person just waiting for the opportunity to shine!  Share your light and the world will respond in rhythm with the energy you give it!
